Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Creative arts program

Boronia Park Public School has an extensive extracurricular creative arts program coordinated by Mrs Jenny Nylund with the help of teacher and parent volunteers. Students have the opportunity to participate in one or more of the following groups:

  • Junior and Senior Choir
  • Training Band
  • Concert Band
  • Recorder Group
  • Strings Group

Junior and senior choir

As many as 80 students from years 3-6 join these choirs each year and are involved in many performance such as:

  • Primary Proms Choral Festival
  • Ryde Schools Spectacular at the Sydney Opera House
  • Performances for Reconciliation Week, Education Week, Anzac Day, Grandparents' Day, and our annual Presentation Day.

Training and concert bands, strings and recorded groups

We are proud of our growing music program which now offers opportunities for students from year 1 and above.

Participation in music contributes to a child’s musical and social development. This includes being a part of a successful school activity, the opportunity to develop confidence in performance, personal skills in the discipline and dedication which belonging to a musical group requires, as well as a whole lot of fun! Participating in the music program is highly rewarding for children.

By participating in musical ensembles students learn what it means to play as part of a group and to participate in external competitions and performances.

Lessons and ensembles take part during and after school hours on school grounds and are directed by experienced musicians.  We also offer stringed and band instruments for hire through the school.

How can parents get involved?

We always welcome parents and rely on their good will to devote their time to help on the band roster to attend rehearsals and assist with band set up and packing up before school.  If you are able to assist, please email Jenny Nylund at boroniapk-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
